Camping
Southern Utah is an exceptional place for camping, whether you're roughing it alone, with family, or a caravan of friends. Some of the most popular destinations for campers include Boulder Mountain in Dixie National Forest, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Goblin Valley, Zion National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park. Additional camping areas are available near Gunlock and Sand Hollow Reservoirs.
The temperate climate of St. George makes it possible to camp year round. All of these sites have fantastic views and are clean areas. They are more affordable than most campsites and well worth the trip. If you are looking to camp, there are many options all over Southern Utah.
Gunlock Reservoir has tent, and Group Sites and is located 15 miles Northwest of St. George on old Highway 91, just past Ivins and Kayenta. There is kind of a limited amount of beach space but there are picnic tables on the shores of a nice little lake. This spot is usually less crowded because it is not as popular as Sand Hollow State Park.
Snow Canyon State Park is probably one of the more attractive campground sites. There is a variety of color to see in the mountains and vegetation that adds to the enjoyment of all who stay there. Amenities include camp sites, drinking water, flushing toilets, and even showers. There are picnic tables and outdoor grills as well. This is a must see park, even if you cannot stay the night. It is 5 miles Northwest off of Highway 18.
Sand Hollow State Park is in Hurricane, and has quite a bit to offer. Not only can you camp and have picnics but there is also a lake and sand dunes that are also a must see. There are camp sites, drinking water, flush toilets, and showers. Whether you are a local or from out of town it is always a nice spot to go and play for the day and even camp overnight. There is plenty of space for parking and camping, but if you bring a boat just be aware that the lake can get crowded pretty quick because a lot of locals love Sand Hollow.
